I have been gaining great interest in creation of art utilizing materials and techniques that stray from the conventional ideas. My mind elaborates on concepts that build themselves up in layers and use materials that say just as much as the overall composition. This latest piece is a great example of just that. Measuring 50 inches by 28 inches, the final piece is in accordance to the exact ratio of the most powerful nation of earth.

After devising this concept a few years ago, I continuously attempted to attack the challenge of creating the piece with very little success. And frustration. I almost scrapped the idea all together, but creativity does have its way of evolving when you forget all together what you are trying to create. Time and time again along with many different sub-concepts, I began to make progress. To describe this piece I will go into the layers that build it into a final product:

The base of it all is shreds of documents from any office. Creating the white horizontal lines and the truest foundation of the American nation is secrecy, debt, and deep entwined confusion of how America can truly thrive. Shred up the importance and push it to the back.


The next level is the red horizontal lines that originally stood for the blood shed to create and protect the American country. Ironically, in my representation of the naton it also loosely translates to that as well. The heart beat of the American nation is the ominous and globally expansive businesses. After timely research I devised a list of America's largest businesses and corporations in multiple fields. Most fields I included are unneeded amenities that provide products and services easily lived without. I learned a great deal of the power and money behind such recognizable trademarks in my research.

The third layer of the piece and of my definition of such a great nation is the icon of death through war. One of the most recognizable and emotional representations of this idea is the war memorials. Geometric grids of thousands of dead bodies are calmly displayed with white crosses and the occasional star of David. I found a great coloration between the memorials and the stars that the American nation stitches into it's flag. Done through spray paint stencils, I found it to have a greater negative effect.

The final layer is a more humorous stab at the great nation. We find almost every product we buy (whether is be a unneeded electronic devise or a slab of abused meat) over protected in hard to remove plastic wrapping. A special way to deliver a product from somewhere, USA to the hand of the consumer. This is my special way to conveniently deliver a product driven by debt, dangerously large business and death.
